Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation

- The night before surgery, eat a light, easily digestible meal. Consume NO alcoholic beverages
and retire early. - If you smoke, refrain from smoking as long as possible before your surgery.
Your mouth and teeth should be well cleansed immediately before your appointment. DO NOT
swallow any water. - A responsible person should be available to stay with you during the surgery and drive you
home after surgery. Under no circumstances, plan to drive an automobile the day of surgery. - Wear a short sleeve shirt to facilitate IV administration at the level of the elbow. DO NOT wear
high heels. PLEASE REMOVE ALL FINGERNAIL POLISH FROM AT LEAST ONE NAIL. - Minors should be accompanied to our office by a parent or guardian so that a consent form
may be signed and they are to remain in the office for the duration of the procedure. - You should arrange to have a responsible person with you during the first 12 to 24 hours after
your surgery. - If you are on any medications on a regular basis and you have not already disclosed that to
our office, please call and make us aware of your medical history and your medications. You
will be directed as to how to take your medications on the day of your surgery.
EATING INSTRUCTIONS
MORNING SURGERY:
Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. NOTHING !! NOT EVEN WATER, GUM OR CANDY !!
AFTERNOON SURGERY:
A clear liquid breakfast is permitted before 7:00 a.m. (water, tea, coffee, broth, juice), then after
7:00 a.m. NOTHING !! NOT EVEN WATER, GUM OR CANDY !!
